Your Guide to Worry-free Lenten Road Trips

Holy Week is fast approaching. If you are planning to hit the road with your family in the backseat, here are some quick tips to ensure a safe and stress-free journey.

Prior to your road trip

 1. Check the weather forecast.

 2. Review routes and note stops like gas stations and restaurants.

3. Ensure that your vehicle's registration papers are with you and are not expired.

4. Check your insurances! There are two types:

  • Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) - this insurance will respond in case you and your car cause bodily injury to a pedestrian or a person outside your vehicle. This is also a requirement for the LTO registration of your vehicle.

You may be happy to note that you can now get CTPL at the SM mall nearest you. Just visit the SM Store Customer Service or Business Center inside the mall.

  • Comprehensive Car Insurance - this insurance will respond to damages to your own vehicle. Make sure you put your Insurer's emergency hotline on your mobile phone's address book.

5. Check your brakes, battery, gas, oil, lights, air, and water, as well as ensuring your car has an early warning device (EWD) and a spare tire.

6. Get enough sleep before you get behind the wheel to prevent any unwanted accidents on the road.

While on the road

1. Grab a cup of coffee if you need some extra energy or a quick pick-me-up.
2. Feel free to pull over and do some stretches at a rest stop.
3. Visit the restroom to prevent any discomfort in case of bad traffic.
